The February issue of PCGamer is sporting a Blizzard special front cover with “Diablo III Leads Top Games of 2009” as the headline.
We have already talked a bit about Dianlo 3 being released this year and I think most of us are of the opinion that the game will not see the light of day in 2009, regardless of what the mags say. According to site visitor Booner, there is no new info in the mag but it does have an interview with Rob Pardo who talks about all Blizzard games.
A new piece of concept art of the female Witch Doctor recently popped up on the Sons of the Storm site, which is run by a number of Blizzard artists. This one was drawn by Glenn Rane, and while we saw a piece of this it in the WWI art trailer, this full image is more revealing (literally and figuratively) and higher quality. Enjoy.

The 2008/2009 lists continue with the C&VG 9 Must-have games of 2009. The list includes both console and PC titles, and while StarCraft 2 made the list of nine, Diablo 3 didn’t, but rather the “plenty to get excited about” honourable mentions list.
Now if I am not mistaken, Diablo 3 will probably be the biggest PC release of 2009 (even though it is unlikely the game will be released this year). While popular, StarCraft 2 will not create as much long-lasting interest as Diablo 3 in my opinion.
Over the last weeks of Winter Holidays, we've had a greater number of contributors than in a long while before, and a lot of small updates have been made on the Diablo 3 Wiki as well as the Diablo 2 Wiki. This is in addition to the contributions that Flux added about a week ago in the Jay Wilson @ 1UP interview updates.C&VG have whipped up an article focusing on what lies ahead for Blizzard in 2009 including Diablo 3, StarCraft 2 and WoW updates. The article is peppered with quotes from the Blizzard team on subjects such as the current competition and taking existing ideas to the next level.
Tis the season for annual “Best Of” lists and unsurprisingly, Diablo III is prominently featured. A collection, for your New Years’ reading pleasure.
PC World’s list of the top 5 unorthodox games twice mentions Diablo 3 in the introduction, but then, as the title suggests, goes into detail about titles such as 1602 AD and Drakensang.
The LA Examiner runs down the bests of the year in gaming, and gives a nod to Diablo III in the Best Announcement category. Surprisingly, they cite not Blizzard’s massive Paris WWI debut, but the online announcement, created as it was by that tantalizing series of blizzard.com splash image.
But the boggest announcement was…Diablo 3! Any announcement that has people staying up until 3 a.m. to see a slowly revealing JPEG has to be a megaton of a bombshell and a sequel to a game that has influenced so many other titles is a megaton.
The Toledo Blade is hoping to see Starcraft II and Diablo III in 2009. It looks like they’ll get half their wish, at least.
Digital Spy UK lists their most anticipated for every platform, including the PC. They say this of Diablo III:
Diablo III - Diablo III has been in development for some time now and fans will be praying for a 2009 release. Set in the familiar world of Sanctuary, it’s up to players to once again save it from extinction. With the return of the familiar isometric viewpoint, gamers will be happy to hear that the stunning 3D environments will sport a realistic physics engine, meaning that lots of destruction will ensue. The gaming experience will also be highly varied, thanks to a random level generator and class specific
The Toronto Globe and Mail broke their best of 2009 up into 5 pages, one per platform, and followed that with a page of What to watch for in 2009. The author’s a bit uninformed about the actual development progress of Diablo III, but his heart is in the right place.
Diablo III (Blizzard) We don’t know that this one is slated for 2009 with any certainty, but the highly polished screens and game videos Blizzard has released over the last half-year have made it seem as though the third entry in the world’s most popular dungeon crawler series could be shipped tomorrow. Here’s hoping.
A few days delayed by holiday events and vacations (this is my first post on my new laptop ^^ ) here’s the weekly wallpaper post. Just one new wall last week, but do check out the Mistress of Pain, by Romak.
While you’re in the mood for the spider queen, soak in Delowyn’s awesome, fan-made CG render of her, in wireframe and beautifully skinned. They’re not wallpapers, but are certainly worth an admiring look.
Gamekk is pondering about upcoming Diablo 3 easter eggs... Perhaps we can expect something like the Cow Level?
With some free time on Christmas Night (my family vacation/get-together begins next week) I went over the entire four page Jay Wilson @ 1up.com interview and added all the new bits of info to the appropriate Diablo Wiki pages. A few of Jay’s answers were restatements (his comments about why no Necromancer and how the WD differs from the Necro were virtually identical to month’s old quotes already in the wiki, since Jay gets the same questions every interview), but he covered a lot of new ground as well, both in content and in tone. All of these pages are brand new and full of content, or are older pages that have been substantially updated:
Also check out this forum thread that’s focused on the surprisingly-detailed information Jay revealed about the development on the 4th and 5th character types, and some hints about their natures embedded in Jay’s reply.
